Research data can be defined as the recorded factual material necessary to validate research findings.

FAIR data increases the visibility of research results, is citable thanks to digital object identifiers (DOIs), and it encourages the reuse of data for new research questions and for verification purposes. FAIR data is research data (including code) that is:

  • Findable
  • Accessible
  • Interoperable
  • Reusable

Regarding privacy and other ethical implications, the guideline for data is “as open as possible, as closed as necessary!”
