Plan your publication

Use this guide before you submit. It will help you choose an appropriate outlet, check funder and rights requirements, identify the best route to open publishing, and establish whether any publication charge needs funding.

Start with the outlet that best serves the research, discipline and intended audience. Then choose how the work will be made open and, where relevant, how any publication charge will be covered.

Paying an APC is only one route. Repository-led publishing, Diamond publishing and Library/IReL publishing agreements can provide open availability without an author or project paying an APC.
