What's in the MakerSpace

The MakerSpace is a space where students can be creative, collaborate, share, develop ideas, innovate, and generally just ‘make stuff’. The space is available for staff and students to use at any time while the Library is open. No need to book.

Maker PCs & Mac Minis

Our PCs have a higher specification than those available in most of the PC suites on campus and we have some of the only Mac Minis around. Adobe CC is currently available on the Macs. Please create a free adobe account and use this to log into the software.

3D Printing

3D printing is free for both students and staff of University of Galway. We print in PLA (and resin by request) and have five 3D printers in use. Learn how to use the free service and submit a design for printing here.

Laser & Vinyl Cutting

The Beambox and Cricut Maker 3 are available on a drop-in basis. Be sure to bring your own materials. Keep an eye out for workshops or request a training session by emailing Eileen Kennedy.

Borrowing Equipment

We also offer free equipment borrowing including drones (license required), VR headsets, camera equipment, Raspberry Pis, Arduinos and more. Equipment can be collected from and returned to the Library & IT Service Desk. View the equipment page to see items and availability.

Volunteer with the MakerSpace

We are always looking for volunteers to facilitate workshops and help maintain the equipment and the space. Full training is provided. If you're interested in helping us out, please email Eileen Kennedy.

Sponsorship

If you think you could help our work or work with us on a partnership, please contact us. The MakerSpace's initial seed funding was generously funded in part by the University of Galway Student Projects' Fund.
