Book Requests

The Library welcomes suggestions from staff and students for additions to the Library’s Collections.

To place a book suggestion via our Library Catalogue, please follow the easy steps outlined in our Book Suggestions guide.

If the suggestion is approved, our policy is to order a hardcopy and an e-book of titles that are relevant to teaching and research needs. We order the latest edition of requested books.

Note: You will receive an email from the Library when the print/e-book is available. Print books normally arrive within 21 working days. E-Books are available within 3 working days.

Journal/Database Requests

Requests for recurrent subscriptions such as journals/databases must come from members of academic staff.

The academic member of staff should forward any journal or database requests to acquisitions@universityogalway.ie

Institutional pricing for the resource will be sought and checked against existing school budgets.

Authorisation from the head of school for a subscription may also be required.

Please note that a maximum of 85% of a School's Library Budget can be spent on subscriptions. This is to maintain some Library funds for the purchase of books/e-books in support of teaching and research.

Our ability to purchase new subscriptions has been severely limited in recent years due to journal inflation and increased budgetary constraints.

Reading List Service

For course textbooks please contact the Reading List Service. This is a specific Library service that prioritises teaching support materials.‌ Multiple copies of textbooks can only be ordered if they are included on a module reading list on the Library's Reading List System.
