An Open Day to Say Goodbye

On Saturday, 25 July, the Library opened its doors to former students, retirees, current staff, and students, inviting them to take a walk down memory lane.

More than 500 people attended on the day, with families bringing their children to a place that holds special memories for them. Chance encounters between former classmates led to warm handshakes, hugs, and joyful reminiscences.

The building buzzed with activity and conversation throughout the day. We welcomed the children and grandchildren of former Librarian Christy Townley who shared with us their treasured family memories of the Library.  We also heard stories of friendships, romances and even marriages that began within these four walls.  On the day we encouraged everyone to share their memories of the Library in a memory book along with picking out their favourite spot in the Library.

Here are some of the photographs captured on the day. We look forward to gathering more memories and share stories as we celebrate the Library's history and its special place in the lives of so many.
